AUSTRALIAN VISAS

The best way to enjoy Australia for a long period of time, other than immigrating is to get hold of a one year working holiday visa. These are only available to some countries but they are a visa well worth getting your hands on.

There are many misconceptions on how to get in to, work and stay in OZ so here's the links to help you get the truth directly from the Australian Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs.  They have details on what Australian visa is right for you, details on the restrictions for each visa or permit and how long each visa allows you to stay in Australia

So whether you are setting out for a holiday in Oz or here for good this will definitely dispel those myths and find out what you need before you set out.

Getting to Oz

There is only one way to see Oz if you are here for a short time and can finance your trip without working.

  • The standard holiday visa which is should be readily available from most countries.   These usually last for between 3 to 6 months but do not allow you to work.

Other visas include student visas and the like which allow you to stay a little longer.   Check out the details.

Staying in Oz

If you want to stay a little longer, then the Working Holiday Visa is for you.  It allows you to stay and work in Oz for between one and two years depending on your visa but it does impose certain working restrictions.

  • This is the most commonly used visa for travelers as it allows you to accumulate you funds when they dwindle as you travel.  Check out our budget guide to help you manage the bucks and help the cash last a little longer than Joe Bloggs

HOT TIP:  Only a few countries are able to  issue working visas for Australia but more countries are being added to the list each year so keep your eyes peeled!!

Once in this Great Southern Land we feel that many of you will not want to go home.   And if you do it will only be to get the rest of your gear and return as soon as possible.

  • To stay a little longer than a year or two require a bit more planning and some kind of employment commitment... or shit loads of cash.... so the best bet is to look at getting a 4 year sponsored working visa.  This allows you to stay in Oz for up to 4 years provided you stay with the same employer and are a good boy or girl.
  • For the more serious lover of "The Sunburnt Country" the permanent residency visa is the next option.  This require a lot more work and can be obtained through a number of avenue, the main one being the "Points System".  In the points system the immigration department assess your credentials based on employment experience, qualifications, age and numerous other things.  The points change periodically and to learn more about how many points you need check out the Australian Immigration Department website
