Can I extend my visa if it expires and I want to stay longer?

The holiday visa can be extended but the working visa cannot unless you have
left Australia during your stay. In this instance you can extend your stay for
the duration you were away from Australia. Either way make sure you can extend
your visa way in advance of actually extending your stay and make no plans until
you receive confirmation. The authorities will export you if you are naughty
Can my employer sponsor me to stay longer?

YES! ... If your company is willing to keep you on they can apply for a 4 year work
permit for you. This allows you to work for that company for up to four years.
Beware though...If you leave or are terminated your visa expires immediately and
you have to leave Australia.
If I am on a working holiday visa and my company sponsor me what happens to
my working visa? top
The working visa is superceded and voided by 4 year residency visa. Once the
4 year visa expires you cannot use the remainder of the time on your working
visa.
How much does it cost? top
All visas cost money and the charges change often so check out the Australian
Department of Immigration for more details. Remember, if you are unsuccessful in
your application you will not get your money back.
How can I stay permanently? top
There is only one main way to stay permanently and that is to get the big
one... Permanent Residency. The most common way is to go through the points
system whereby the department on immigration analyse your qualifications, work
experience and age and decide if you are eligible. Other ways include marrying
an Australian but this is not advised as the first choice of options unless you
are 110% certain you are marrying for the right reasons. Also, the questions
they ask are very personal and could prove to be embarrassing.
Does my visa guarantee me entry to Australia?

Basically yes but immigration officials may ask you to prove how you are
going to finance your stay, whether you have a return flight and where you are
going to stay. If you do not have sufficient funds they could refuse you entry.
Make sure you have a few thousand dollars, a return flight or flight from
Australia (or the funds to purchase such a flight) and you know where you are
staying on your first night - even if it is only the name of a hostel. Play it

Can I leave Australia and re enter at a later date?

Provided your visa allows multiple entry (as does the holiday visa) and you
re-enter before the visa expires then you can. Always check with immigration
first if you are unsure because if you are not permitted to re-enter they will
send you home.
What is an ETA? top
An ETA is and Electronic Authority Transfer and replaces the paper visas.
This is only applicable for holiday visas.
Is there an age limit on any visa?

Yes. The working visa has a maximum age limit of 27 but check with
immigration for alternatives.
