I have a place now, what do I do now...

...Apart from having a barbie (see the Great Aussie Barbie Guide)

Most new flats will not be furnished. To get cheap furniture:

  • Milk crates can be used for stand tables and bed bases
  • Cheap furniture can be bought at the likes of St. Vincent de Paul or the Salvation Army.
  • TV & fridges can be rented for approx. $100 per month (If you intend to stay in a place for a few months buying one or hire purchase is the way . After all rent money is dead money) There is no TV license in Australia. The adverts pay for that as you will find out.
  • Bargain basement shops are all over and the $2 shops are good for cutlery and other kitchen stuff
  • Watch out for bin nights its amazing what some people throw out and every now and then there are verge clearances when people leave stuff on the side of the road for garbos to collect. Easy picking and it's usually good stuff until the rains come.Staring at the moon!

If you are worried about the 'cockroaches , just ask for "the baits" at your supermarket.

    Getting to and from places:

Buy weekly tickets for ferries, trains and buses. It saves a lot of money.
Cabs are expensive and the drivers can be rude and not have a clue where they are going
