The international code to phone Australia is 61. If you need to phone the Australian telephone number 02 1234 5678, for example, ignore the first zero and dial +61 2 1234 5678

To phone out of Australia dial 00 11 and then the country code (ie 00 11 44 for the UK)

The basic national numbering system for Australian residential and commercial phone calls comprises a two digit area code and an eight digit phone number.

For example (02) 1234 5678 where (02) is for New South Wales and 1234 5678 is the phone number. The codes generally differ for each state.

Free phone calls look like 1800 *** *** but cost from mobiles.

Mobile Numbers have a four digit code and a six digit number and usually start with 04**.

You will also see six digit number like 131 500 (Public transport info line) These cost the same as a local call, except from mobile.
